Summer interview with Tero Heikkinen from Imagon.

What do you work with in Imagon?
I work as a technical designer. In practice, I design the structures of illuminated signs, the number of LEDs and make production drawings for production. I have been at Imagon for two years now.

You have a hobby: running. How do you prepare for running and when did you start this hobby?
Ultrarunning is practiced for years, it’s a long process. The training is very goal-oriented, including hill running, refueling, pace duration training and different running surfaces. I’ve been running ultras for two years, but I ran my first half marathon in 2015.

You just ran the Nuts Karhunkierros 55 km in Ruka. What was it like running there?
Ruka’s terrain is very technical. There are a lot of rhizomes and hills, rock quarry, rock and loose rocks. The weather was good!

Is this hobby useful also at work?
Endurance sports provide a counterbalance to work and develop perseverance and stress tolerance. In general, exercise is always good.

How to reconcile work and running?
I run as a hobby mainly in the evenings and on weekends. Holiday training depends on the destination and company. When I go on holiday with my family, I don’t usually go running. While on holiday in Spain, I did try running on local roads, but I didn’t go off-road.

Share with us some funny happenings about your hobby?
When you run longer than a normal working day, you experience quite a range of emotions along the way. Every part of the body hurts, legs cramp, dehydration strikes, and thoughts go through your head, from fear of death to craving for pizza. However, reaching the finish line and the feeling of winning oneself is such an addictive feeling that even though the race is demanding, you start planning a new trip the day after the race.
